This year’s workshop was fantastic! Great people, good food, sunshine, and lots of long coffee breaks, just what the normal researcher needs.
We had a more extended event this year, the Freesound Day and the BioDCASE Workshop made this a four-day gathering.

I very much enjoyed the Fressound Day program, which was almost completely unrelated to DCASE, but a beautiful showcase of what users do with the Freesound content. Our DCASE research community uses Freesound.org as a source for collecting datasets for experiments, but that’s such a small fraction of the available content, and such a limited use case! Particularly interesting were the presentations about Preserving and sharing classic Hollywood sound effects by Craig Smith, the Soundpot by Gorka Egino Arroyo, and the EARTH SONG sonic playground by Jeff T Byrd.
The BioDCASE brought bioacoustics into focus within DCASE, and was a very interesting first day of easing into scientific works. Then the usual DCASE Workshop with spotlights and posters and lots and lots of discussions. The DCASE Community is running strong!

Definitely worth the trip to Barcelona, even though we had pretty much no time to enjoy the beach.
