New research projects on the circular economy: CARE and CIRCEX

The transition to a circular economy necessitates significant changes in the practices of various stakeholders. Recent research projects delve into both shifts in household practices and the impact of human experiences.

The EU funded project called CARE (Circular consumption Activities to tRansform households toward material Efficiency) is a new and innovative Horizon Europe project lead by Malla Mattila (from the left in the photo), Martta Vänskä, Mari Ainasoja, Nina Mesiranta ja Elina Närvänen from the Wastebusters research group. This four year project aims to transform a hundred European households across five countries into forerunners of the circular economy. You can read more about the project in the press release.

The researchers also work as part of another four year project called CIRCEX: Circular Economy Experience. Funded by the Research Council of Finland, this collaborative project partners with Elina Jaakkola’s research group at the University of Turku. CIRCEX explores the emergence and role of human experience in the circular economy. The project breaks new ground by conceptualizing circular economy experiences, unpacking how human stakeholders’ experience translates into action, and creating a framework for circular economy experience design. Further information can be found on the project’s website.

Congratulations on these two exciting and impactful projects!
