Service robots developed for the commercial market in Japan have not been the desired success stories. However, media have contributed both indirectly and directly the persistent belief that robots are used in the care of the elderly in Japan. Where do these beliefs come from? The Japanese government and the technology industry have actively created a perception of Japanese robotics and the superiority of Japanese robots.
