Getting to know Perla’s researchers: Jenni Repo
June 2024
Who are you and what do you do?
I am Jenni Repo, a doctoral researcher in social work.
What are you currently researching?
My research interest is in child protection. I am currently doing doctoral research on the quality and deficiencies in children’s residential care from the perspectives of legality, supervisors and professionals working in children’s residential homes. I am interested in how quality and deficiencies are defined in children’s residential care and in their supervision, and how these definitions shape the institutional task of child protection and residential care.
What is current right now?
In my first dissertation article, I examine the views of supervisors who conduct inspections into residential homes on what kind of information they consider important when they evaluate residential care and if children’s rights have been violated. Additionally, the focus is on how they work with the information, i.e., how they, for example, evaluate the significance and reliability of the information they gather during the inspections. Next, I start collecting material by interviewing professionals working in residential homes.
