Getting to know Perla's researchers: Katja Repo

Getting to know Perla’s researchers: Katja Repo
June 2024

Who are you and what do you do?

I’m Katja Repo, a lecturer in social policy at Tampere University. I work both at the central campus of Tampere University and at the University Consortium of Pori.

What are you currently researching?

My research interests are connected by an interest in family and childhood research. I have researched work and family reconciliation, childcare and early childhood education solutions for families, child home care allowance and time use of families-. These themes are still present both in the contents of my teaching and in my research activities.

What is current right now?

Right now, I’m looking at how parents of school-aged children perceive family and family time during the Covid-19 pandemic in spring 2020 as part of the Families and corona project. I am also involved in the ARKI research project, where we are interested in the effects of the economy on the everyday life of families.

I also promote the visibility of childhood and family themes in my teaching. I coordinate the interdisciplinary Childhood, Family and Life Course thematic module. The module is available to all students of the higher education community in Tampere.
