Getting to know Perla’s researchers: Tiina Soini
February 7, 2024

Who are you and what do you do?

I am Tiina Soini; a research director and vice dean of research at Tampere University’s Faculty of Education and Culture as well as a member of Perla’s management team.

What are you currently researching?

In recent years, I have been particularly interested in studying, leading and steering of large scale school development and reforms. In sustainable school development and educational change, in general, supporting agency is important. Both children’s and young people’s agency in relation to their learning and teachers’ opportunities to experience professional agency in relation to changes in the curriculum are key factors of success in reforms.

What is current right now?

At the moment, most of my research time is spent on the SchoolWell project. SchoolWell is a project funded by the Strategic Council and implemented by a large interdisciplinary consortium of six universities.

We study pedagogical measures to support comprehensive well-being of children and young people in school. The project is interested in future teacher competence on supporting wellbeing as well as their own well-being at work. Project is conducted in collaboration with Finnish teacher training schools.
