ICILS 2023 shows the relevance of TeC@ses
The competent use of digital media has become significantly more important in recent years and is increasingly affecting all areas of life. This is why it is particularly important for the education system to respond to this development and create a specific framework that meets the needs of a digitalised world. The aim is to prepare pupils not only for learning, but also for the digital future – with skills that enable them to use digital media in a reflective, productive and responsible way.
The new ICILS 2023 study (ICILS 2023) presents an international comparison of young people’s digital skills and shows that, despite the increased relevance of digital technologies, at best, internationally no change in students’ skills related to digital literacy between 2018 and 2023. In some countries, almost three quarters of the pupils with computer and information literacy did not reach the second of a total of five competence levels.
Nevertheless, the study also shows that aspects of information and computer technology as well as computational thinking were widely incorporated in the national plans and policies across the countries. The TeC@ses tool will support teachers in further implementing this and developing innovative, digitalised learning arrangements. Teachers are encouraged by TeC@ses to use the possibilities of digitalised case studies – a method that not only promotes the development of technical skills, but also strengthens critical thinking and the ability to work in teams in digital spaces.
Preliminary conclusion of the ‘Design’ module
The October was used in the project to analyse the feedback received from vocational teachers and based on this, to identify potential improvements to the created learning nuggets. The feedback was generally positive, but we were able to improve some of the wording of the first version, for example. This adaptation will further optimise the TeC@ses tool for its target group. Now, the second module of the online learning, ‘Teach’, will be developed in the project. We would like to thank everyone who took part in the first round of evaluation!
The project meeting in Antwerp is coming up
From the 27th November to 29th November 2024, the project partners will meet in Antwerp. We intent to have an intensive exchange about the planned content of the ‘Teach’ module and discuss ideas for the design of the individual learning nuggets. In this way, we will work together to develop approaches to create the best possible learning content for the vocational teachers.
In addition to the further development of our content, the teamwork itself between the partners is also a central aspect. Through open dialogue and exchange, we aim to further strengthen the potential of our collaborative working and generate new impulses for the project work. As the TeC@ses tool is being developed as part of an Erasmus+ project, cultural exchange also plays an important role in bringing the European idea to life in our collaboration.
The newsletter will be published every four months. Should you wish to speed up the time until the next newsletter, you are welcome to discover the homepage for the TeC@ses project with lots of up-to-date and helpful information.
