Strengthening digital competencies: The DigCompEdu framework for teachers

The European Commision’s  Digital Competence Framework for Educators (DigCompEdu) offers practical guidance to reflect on your own digital competence: Describing seven areas of competence, it enables teachers to use digital technologies in a targeted, pedagogically meaningful and responsible manner. This ranges from lesson planning and designing learning activities to promoting learners’ digital competences.

DigCompEdu is particularly valuable for teachers in vocational education and training. Here, digital tools are often combined with practical, action-oriented learning scenarios, just like in the TeC@ses project. The framework highlights the digital competencies needed to effectively support students and integrate digital work processes into teaching and, at the same time, work competently and reflectively with technology.

The DigCompEdu Self-Reflection Tool SELFIEforTEACHERS allows teachers to systematically assess their own digital competences. After just a few minutes, you will know in which areas you are already strong and where you can develop further in a targeted manner. The tool also provides practical tips and resources that can be integrated directly into your teaching.

The current status of the TeC@ses project

We are currently working intensively on revising all elements of the TeC@ses tool to make it even better suited to the requirements of vocational education and training.

The last evaluation round, which involved over 60 vocational teachers from Belgium, Czechia, Finland and Germany has shown that the tool already offers added value; at the same time, we received valuable suggestions on how to make the tool even more tailored to our needs.

The revised version will be tested by at least 120 teachers in vocational education and training this December and January. Their feedback will be crucial in further refining the TeC@ses tool and ensuring that it meets the long-term needs of practitioners.

If you are a vocational teacher of commercial subjects and would like to participate in the upcoming evaluation round, please contact us at ilmari.puhakka@tuni.fi

The newsletter will be sent every four months. If you would like to speed up the time until the next newsletter, you are welcome to discover the new homepage for the TeC@ses project with lots of up-to-date and helpful information.
