Music video about climate mobilities made in collaboration with primary schools

Screen capture from HUMANE-CLIMATE music video

The HUMANE-CLIMATE music video on climate mobilities has been completed. The song "Huomisen lait" (Tomorrow's laws), sung by Finnish and Greek primary school children in the video, was written by singer-songwriter Lydia Lehtola and originally performed by the LYYTI band. She is a partner in the project.

The study explores experiential learning for children and young people in the era of climate change. It also experiments with a range of participatory teaching and learning methods aimed at equipping teachers and pupils to deal with the direct and indirect impacts of climate change in a long-term perspective.

In spring 2024, we conducted an action research project in primary schools in Tampere, Finland and Athens, Greece, in collaboration with schools. We tested and developed art-based teaching and learning methods with 4th graders on the theme of climate mobility - teaching and learning about the relationship between climate change and different types of migration.

We implemented the work as part of our curriculum-based teaching. As tools we used methods of environmental art education and empathy education. One of the outcomes of our collaboration was an animated music video that the researchers put together based on the students' work. By watching it, you can explore the topic and learn about climate mobility from a child's perspective.

Have a great summer, everyone!

Best wishes,
HUMANE-CLIMATE team
