The Uneven Right to Move: Exploring Climate Justice Through Comics is a learning resource developed on a research basis within the HUMANE-CLIMATE project (Research Council of Finland, 347374), led by Kirsi Pauliina Kallio. The materials have been co-created by the project’s researchers, non-fiction writer Laura Ertimo, comic artist Mari Ahokoivu, and the participating students. The resource addresses the root causes of climate change and current climate-related challenges from a justice-based perspective through three paths (colonialism, industrialization, migration).
The digital material is available on Microsoft Sway. The poster-based teaching material enables the long-term implementation of cross-curricular, interactive, and participatory climate change education. All materials are open access and can be freely used with learners of different ages in age-appropriate ways. The materials will be piloted in schools in Tampere during the coming fall and further developed by the research group through several research projects. Through piloting, supporting materials and assignments will be produced to facilitate the use of the materials in accordance with the Finnish National Core Curriculum. All materials will be archived in the Mappa resource bank during the coming winter.
