TamCAM Celebrated Children's Day at Work with special visitors

TamCAM had special visitors on Children’s Day at Work last Friday, when 12 children visited our research center.

To start the day, we visited the nearby Tays University Hospital, where we explored the activities of the The Paediatric Clinical Trials Unit PeeTU. PeeTU had arranged a program for us, during which children (and a few adults) tried virtual reality glasses. Additionally, the children had the opportunity to experience what it’s like to work as a doctor. A hospital clown also paid us a visit!

From PeeTU, our journey continued to the hospital amusement park, where the children could have happily spent much more time. However, we had to return to the university, where we had the chance to be student observers for a moment, attending medical education.

After lunch, the children visited the Arvo Laboratory, where they got to see, for example, what a mosquito looks like under magnification.

At the end of the day, we shared information about the research center with the children and discussed their thoughts on children’s health. We asked them about the things they think we should research. The children were concerned about topics related to allergies and suggested developing medicines that could permanently eliminate allergies or conditions like lactose intolerance. We also inquired about what children believe should be taught to medical students about being a good doctor. According to the children, a good doctor takes the time to listen, remains calm, and is knowledgeable.

After the joint program, the children had the opportunity to explore the activities at Tampere Centre for Skills Training and Simulation (Taitokeskus).

Thanks to everyone who participated in organizing the day, and of course, a big thank you to the children!
