For decades, neurons have been the main focus of neuroscience. Today, evidence shows that astrocytes are far more than passive support cells – they actively influence behaviour, memory, and health.
Docent Marja-Leena Linne and her team, together with researchers from the Jülich Research Centre in Germany, are developing advanced models of single cells and networks where astrocyte–neuron interactions play a central role.
Their long-term work was recently highlighted in a Nature News Feature article that explores the international progress in this field.
“It is rewarding to see the trajectory of our research reflected in the article,” Linne says.
