Polytrauma research

The research seeks to investigate the prognosis, quality of life, return to work, and treatment costs of severely injured patients treated at intensive care units. Some of the research data is collected from the Tampere University Hospital Trauma Registry, founded in 2015. The polytrauma research is carried out in collaboration with both domestic partners (e.g. Central Finland Central Hospital, Mikkeli Central Hospital, Kuopio University Hospital) as well as foreign ones (e.g. German TR-DGU registry collaboration).

So far, the project has articles published, for instance, on polytrauma patients’ mortality, substance use and length of stay in intensive care units. Moreover, we have published collaboratively up-to-date information on polytrauma patient treatment rates during the COVID-19 pandemic.
