About the conference:
During the last decades, dominating management models have been substantially based on a mechanical view of human action, organisational activity and social relationships. These models do not take into account the fact that people have free will and a mind of their own. As a result of such approach, employees’ creativity, initiative and human relations are heavily constrained. A mechanical approach builds a person who is mainly motivated by external rewards relating to standardized behaviours and targets. This is not only an ethical and social problem: people who only respond to external rewards and demands are not active and creative problem-solvers and this also affects the organisations’ possibility to achieve sustainable development. This conference follows the first one held in Gothenburg (Sweden) in 2011 on The Actor-Reality Perspective: On-going research and future prospects, where the framework of ARP was established and innovative empirical research in this
perspective discussed. This second conference is focused on the constraints and possibilities of having reflective and constructive actors in global-economy organizations that enhance standardization of organizational processes and behaviours. The aim of this second conference is to develop and discuss perspectives other than the mechanical approach, which can be used to develop methods and practices to handle the complexity and non-linearity of organisational processes in the real-world practice. Common to these non-mechanical perspectives is the assumption that members of organisations do possess creativity and problem solving skills, which can be used in a constructive way in daily work and which will make organizations more competitive if the management is able to identify and properly use such skills.
We welcome submissions of research contributions of different types – e.g. short papers, research projects and full conference papers — in the following areas within private and public organizations:
- governance
- management and leadership
- accounting
- performance measurement
- creativity and problem solving
- knowledge and learning
- communication
- responsibility and trust
- ethics and virtues
