A newly published article on HiAP in Public Health Forum by our Centre's co-directors

“How lifelong learning systems for human security can empower people and communities to think globally and act locally.”

We are pleased to share that our Center’s Co-Directors, Prof. Meri Koivusalo and Dr. Lauri Kokkinen, have contributed to a newly published article in Public Health Forum:

How lifelong learning systems for human security can empower people and communities to think globally and act locally” by Julian Fisher, Meri Koivusalo, Lauri Kokkinen, Magnus Vollset, and Shirlene Esplana.

The article advances the argument that contemporary security challenges are multifaceted, interconnected, and transboundary. It demands a transdisciplinary approach that integrates public health, policy, security studies, and sustainable development planning. The authors assert that true human security originates at the local community level. They propose that lifelong learning systems for sustainable development offer a comprehensive and inclusive framework. Such systems nurture systems thinking, fortify community resilience, and enable individuals to “think globally and act locally.”

We are proud to see our Co-Directors contributing to such a meaningful conversation in the fields of human security, public health, and education.
