Health in All Policies (HiAP) and Social Determinants of Health (SDH) are the foundational concepts that underpin our theoretical framework.

HiAP is a strategic approach that systematically considers the health implications of decisions across various sectors, aiming to enhance population health and equity. It emphasizes the accountability of policymakers for health impacts.

SDH encompasses a broad understanding of determinants, including commercial and political factors, which significantly influence health outcomes.

These two interconnected concepts are central to our work, forming the basis for our theoretical framework. HiAP guides us in examining the health consequences of policy decisions, seeking synergies, and avoiding adverse health effects. Meanwhile, SDH broadens our perspective to encompass the multifaceted societal influences on health, including commercial and political determinants.

Together, they drive our research, policy analysis, and advice, contributing to the improvement of health and equity on local, national, and global levels while promoting accountability among policymakers. Our work combines these concepts, creating the groundwork for an observatory for social determinants of health.
