A new WHO evidence review, led by Professor Salla Atkins from our Centre at Tampere University, explores how social protection measures mitigated the socioeconomic impacts of public health and social measures (PHSM) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The review analyzes 1,079 policies across 123 countries, highlighting the positive effects of social protection on health and well-being, the importance of adaptable systems, and the need for stronger collaboration between health and social sectors.
The findings were presented at the ILO-WHO workshop in Geneva, emphasizing strategies to make emergency responses more equitable and resilient.
