CNESS - Climate Neutral Energy Systems and Society
CNESS seminar on urban thermal environment and building energy conservation with Dr. Jihui Yuan (hybrid)
November 15, 2023 (Wednesday), at 14.00-15.00 (Hervanta-Festia-FC326 or TEAMS)
Tuni´s research platform on Climate Neutral Energy Systems and Society invites everyone to join its hybrid seminar on urban thermal environment and building energy conservation (hybrid). In his presentation, guest researcher Dr. Jihui Yuan from the Osaka Metropolitan University will focus primarily on the solar reflection characteristics of building envelopes as part of the urban heat island (UHI) mitigation and building energy savings strategies. Afterwards, there will be a Q&A and discussion session.

Abstract: As urbanization continues to expand worldwide, the impact of urban thermal environments and building energy conservation becomes increasingly critical. This study delves into the realm of sustainable urban development by investigating the solar reflection characteristics of building envelopes and their implications for mitigating urban heat islands and enhancing energy efficiency.
The research employs a multidisciplinary approach, combining architectural design principles, materials science, and urban planning strategies. Through comprehensive analysis, including computer simulations, empirical measurements, and field observations, this study aims to better understand the interplay between building envelope properties and the urban thermal environment.
