Success in securing personal research grants for several CoEBoC researchers

The first half of 2024 has brought success to many researchers in securing crucial research funding for their work from various foundations.

Post doctoral research fellow Miia Juntunen, PhD, also from the Adult Stem Cell Group receved one-year research funding by The Finnish Cultural Foundation to study cellular interactions in white adipose tissue browning.

Post doctoral research fellow Hanna Vuorenpää, PhD, from the Adult Stem Cell Group was awarded one-year research funding by The Finnish Cultural Foundation to study ischemic blood vessel damage.

Post doctoral research fellow Mohamadamin Forouzandehmehr, D.Sc,. from the Computational Biophysics and Imaging Group received the Finnish Post Doc Pool grant for working in the United States. His research area is computer models that consider gender differences in human myocardial cells and improve diagnostics. He plans to integrate mechanisms within his current models to simulate the sex differences. More about the topic here.

Doctoral researcher Anastasiia Mykuliak, MSc, from the Adult Stem Cell Group received one-year research grant from the Finnish Cultural Foundation and two-month research grant Maud Kuistila Memorial Foundation. Mykuliak is studying infiltration ability of prostate cancer cells through an engineered vascular network into a bone-specific microenvironment using microfluidic chips.

Doctoral researcher Ella Lampela, MSc, also from the Adult Stem Cell Group received five-month research grant from the Diabetes Research Foundations. With the grant, she will develop vascularized skeletal muscle model for studying metabolic diseases.

Doctoral researcher Kaisa Tornberg, MSc Tech., from the Micro- and Nanosystems Group received 5000 € grant from The Emil Aaltonen Foundation. She will focus on developing organ-on-chip platforms for modelling ischemia.
