My current research focuses on the use of signs in social interaction in treatment with substance abusers. My goal is to apply some ideas of Charles Sanders Peirce’s theory of signs (semiotic) to the analysis of the interaction between counselors and addiction clients in the context of the Finnish probation system. I work in a research project ”Process and outcome of initial motivational interviews with substance abusers”. During my Utacas year I will concentrate on analysing the interpretations from clients’ change talk made by the counselors.
