Current project
The focus of my ongoing project is on the cultures of Finnish game industry. In other words, I’m interested in the meanings and cultures associated with professional making of digital games. The initial conceptual hypothesis in the proposed
research involves setting up a triangle of research subjects. The key nodal points are as follows: 1) the industry history, 2) self-image of the industry branch and the individual workers and 3) the relation between game industry professionals and players. In order to contextualize the findings, comparison material is collected from other Nordic countries. The research will produce both theoretical and empirical knowledge on the meanings of “gamework” and the larger connections of game industry in contemporary society.
