Research interests

My research interests have generally related to ageing society, the third age and studying in later life. Theoretically I have looked into these phenomena through the concept of agency and the point of view of intersectionality, especially through the intersections of gender, age and class. In my Postdoctoral Fellowship project titled “Ageing, masculinity and power relations in men’s communities: An ethnographic study on daily practices and intersecting differences”, my research interests concern men’s ageing and masculinity, constructions of age relations in everyday practices and communities, with overall interest in ageing as a gendered and class-based process. Theoretically and methodologically my research draws on gender studies and sociology of age.

The study is related to the MANage project, which is a joint project of the School of Health Sciences and School of Social Sciences and Humanities. In MANage, we investigate men’s ageing from the perspectives of individual experiences of physical ageing, and changing social relations.
