Research interests
My research interest is distribution of health and social service use among population. My focus has mainly been on older people. In my studies I combine the perspectives and methods of health economics, health services research and gerontology.
During my Research Collegium period (2012–2014), I will study time trends in the use and costs of health and social services among older people. I study the effect of closeness of death on the use and costs of services by comparing them between those who lived their last 2 years of life and those at the same age but who lived longer. The data have been gathered from multiple national registers. Study population consists almost all those who died in Finland from 1998 to 2008 at the age of 70 years or over (N>300,000) and their survived matched control persons.
My study is a part of the COCTEL study at the School of Health Sciences, University of Tampere.
