My research interests focus on the relationship between education policy and socio-political changes. Previously I explored the effect of political transition on the objectives of citizenship education in Finland and Russian since the fall of the Soviet Union. At the moment, I concentrate on the transnationalisation of education policy-making, in particular, the evolving partnerships between national governments and multilateral organisations. My postdoctoral research project studies the ongoing co-operation between Russia and the World Bank around the Russia Education Aid for Development (READ) initiative. By means of document analysis and interviews with key stakeholders this research seeks to answer two broad questions: What work does the READ do and for whom? What is the framework through which it realises this? Theoretically and methodologically this research is nested in comparative education, sociology of education and critical policy analysis.
