As a Professor in Social Work at the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Tampere, my research interests have recently focused on child protection. During the period of professorial fellowship, I am exploring three themes in particular: how social workers navigate among different sources of information and interest when making decisions and assessing the outcome of their decisions in child protection, how the child welfare systems perceive and act with migrant children, and finally, how the principle of ‘the child’s best interest’ is included in the decision-making process.
