Background

I am an organizational sociologist specializing in innovation, collaboration, and teamwork in the field of medicine and life sciences. I received a master’s degree in sociology from the University of Helsinki in 2008 and Ph.D. at Stanford University’s organization studies doctoral program in 2015. Since then I have been working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Management in University of Tampere and now as a postdoctoral research fellow at the IASR.

Research

A major part of my research focuses on the collaborative process of translating a new piece of scientific knowledge to an application or a tool that can be used in clinical settings. In my dissertation project, I examined the first stages in the translational research process by conducting a longitudinal ethnographic study of a new translational research center in the field of medicine. In my future work, I plan to build on this project by collecting data on healthcare related implementation projects, which showcase the last stages in the translational research process.

Recently, I have also been working on research projects relating to interdisciplinary research centers, the role of academic leaders in the facilitation of translational research, and the implementation of the tenure track model in Finnish universities.
