IMPACT members receive D. R. Harting Award for outstanding publication

IMPACT members were awarded the D. R. Harting Award by the Society of Experimental Mechanics for their distinguished paper published in the journal Experimental Techniques

Dr. Soares, Dr. Vázquez and Prof. Hokka are the 2022 recipients of the D. R. Harting Award by the Society of Experimental Mechanics (SEM) for their outstanding paper  “Thermomechanical Behavior of Steels in Tension Studied with Synchronized Full-Field Deformation and Temperature Measurements” published in the journal Experimental Techniques. The SEM is a nonprofit and educational organization comprised of experimentalists, engineers, researchers and scientists from both academia and industrial sector, who are interested in the development and application of testing methods and measurements and strives to support the development of these for improving the understanding of material mechanics. The award is named after Darrell R. Harting for his exceptional contributions to the SEM and an early supporter of Experimental Techniques. The award is given by the SEM every year to a the most outstanding paper in the journal Experimental Techniques during a given year. The evaluation is based on the opinions of the Experimental Techniques’ reviewers, senior technical editor and SEM’s Honors Committee. The awarded paper describes in detail a method to use of temporally and spatially synchronized high-speed optical and infrared imaging to investigate the full-field evolution of strain and temperature in different steels at a wide range of strain rates.
