In his research, Rubio Ruiz developed a mesoscale finite element model of granite, calibrated using multiple types of experimental data in one systematic approach. He used this rock model to investigate how alternating current (AC) excitations can facilitate rock breakage.
“This research contributes to both the prevention of unforeseen material failure in critical applications across industries and the optimisation of rock breakage processes in mining applications”, says Rubio Ruiz.
Rubio Ruiz is currently working as Expert, Structural analysis at Wärtsilä, a global leader in complete lifecycle solutions for the marine and energy markets, where he continues using numerical strategies to analyse material integrity under different types of cyclic loading conditions.
The doctoral dissertation of MSc Rafael Arturo Rubio Ruiz, titled Integrated Experimental-Numerical Approach to Analyse the Evolution of Damage Under Various Loading Conditions in the field of material science and computational mechanics, will be publicly examined at Tampere University on Friday, 29th November 2024, at 12 o’clock in Pieni Sali 1, Festia Building, Korkeakoulunkatu 8, Tampere. The Opponents will be Professor Charlie Chunlin Li from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Associate Professor Marion Fourmeau from the National Institute of Applied Sciences, Lyon. Professor Mikko Hokka will act as the Custos.
