Teaching

FYS.240 Optics

Introduction course to optics. Core content includes geometrical optics and optical instruments, propagation, reflection and refraction of light. Interference and diffraction. Light-matter interactions and lasers.

FYS.514 Optical design

Online studies on basic physics needed in optical design. Analysis and design tasks of optical systems using commercially available software (Optalix in 2021).  In collaboration with University of Eastern Finland and PREIN.

FYS.510 Optical Thin Films and Waveguides

Postgraduate course in the basic optical properties of thin films and waveguides as well as their mathematical analysis. Optical properties of single- and multilayer films are analyzed using the transfer-matrix method. Matlab is extensively used to solve the exercises, visualize the optical fields and optimize the structures.
