New directors chosen for Narrare

New directors have been chosen for Narrare: Centre for Interdisciplinary Narrative Studies for the term of next four years.

Narrare’s new director is PhD, docent Hanna-Riikka Roine. She currently works as a Principal Investigator of the Narrare-affiliated project Imagine, Democracy! Narrative Fiction as a Tool for Imagining Democracy in Finland (2023–2025, Kone Foundation) and an editor-in-chief of Avain – The Finnish Review of Literary Studies. As a narrative theorist, Roine specialises in digital culture and various strategies of imagination.

Narrare’s new vice director is Aura Lounasmaa. She obtained her PhD in the University of Galway in 2014 and has worked as a lecturer in politics and psychosocial studies in the University of East London, where she also was a member of the executive board of the Centre for Narrative Research in 2016–2021. Currently Lounasmaa works as a postdoctoral researcher in the research project POEMS (2021–2025, Research Council of Finland) within the Space and Political Agency Research Group.

Both Roine and Lounasmaa have previously served as the members of Narrare’s executive board and follow Mari Hatavara, Professor in Finnish literature, and Matti Hyvärinen, Research Director, in their posts. Doctoral researcher Markus Laukkanen continues as Narrare’s coordinator.
