About

New Social Research is a bold endeavor by the University of Tampere to create a new, interdisciplinary social science for the 21st century. NSR aims to address the complex array of new challenges, problems, issues and developments that face Finland, Europe and the rest of the world. NSR received funding from two University profiling programmes (Academy of Finland Profi2 and Profi3, 1.4.2016 - 31.8.2021).

At our core has been a group of dynamic and innovative early and mid-career researchers. Around us is a community of researchers from across the globe who work with and alongside us.

Underpinning NSR’s work are five broad, interconnected thematic areas that address major societal challenges:

  • Governing complexity
  • The transformation of agency and empowerment
  • The changing nature of work
  • The future of wellbeing
  • New forms of communication and interaction.
