Introduction of intern: Rosa-Mariia Stenbacka

I’m Rosa-Mariia, a 4th year Lifelong Learning and Education student at the University of Tampere. I was a PERLAs university intern in 2023 from March to the beginning of July.

What made you interested in PERLA?
I became interested in PERLA because it offered versatile tasks during the internship and opportunities to use my own strengths. Multidisciplinarity and cooperation between sciences have always interested me, and PERLA was the right place for that. I also became interested in PERLA through my own social policy studies, because PERLA’s research topics were precisely in areas that interested me as well. During the job interview, I was convinced that I really wanted to go to PERLA when I found out what kind of projects lay ahead.

What kind of tasks have you done with PERLA?
I’ve done a lot of all kinds of things during training. I am involved in the days and organization of Social Policy Conference 2023, as well as organizing smaller events. I have done a lot of different communication tasks, such as social media communication as well as broadcast communication. I have also been able to develop PERLA’s website and I have been able to visualize PERLA’s look both on social media and on the website. A lot of different invitations, social media templates and diagrams have been made with Canva. In addition to these, I have been involved in the Low-income families research project, where I have analyzed data and run figures in Excel. Finally, I also got to make  Perlas own presentation video, which I filmed, edited and published on PERLA’s YouTube channel. All in all, therefore, versatile tasks!

What next?
Next, I myself have the fifth year of study ahead of me, which I will spend on pedagogic studies and educational science studies. Before this, I can go on vacation and relax during the summer vacation! From PERLA, I learned a lot of useful skills for my future working life from the operation of a practical research center.
