Dr Stephen Billett is Professor of Adult and Vocational Education at Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia. Since 1992, he has researched and published widely in the field of learning through and for work. Billett is the Founding and Editor in Chief of Vocations and Learning (Springer).
During his visit, he had four open hybrid “Let’s talk …” lectures for the TAU staff and students. As we all know, occupational and work practice requirements are constantly changing in response to new technologies, ways of working, demand for occupations and emerging existential challenges, manifested in particular ways in work settings. Billett described how learning and development at work cannot be separated from the practices of participation, but learning is a normal part of cognition when we work and act in work communities. The introductory videos of all lectures are also available online after the lectures:
- Let’s talk about integrating and augmenting tertiary education students’ experiences in workplace settings, Introductory video
- Let’s talk about augmenting learning through work: practice curriculum and pedagogies and personal practices, Introductory video
- Let’s talk about integrating innovations and learning at work, Introductory video
- Let’s talk about enhancing the standing of vocational education and the occupation it serves, Introductory video
The visit is funded by the Faculty of Education and Culture, “Senior Visiting Fellowship” program. Billett’s visit will continue in November, from 14. November to 2. December. During this period, the focus will be on deepening research cooperation. There will also be lectures open to all.
