Dr. Christian Schwarz from Humboldt-University Berlin will give a lecture on
Political & linguistic borders and their relevance for dialect change in modern German.

Dr. Schwarz received his PhD in 2012 in Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg. Currently he acts as a guest researcher at the Chair for the History of German Language at the Humboldt-University Berlin. He is visiting COMS via Erasmus Staff Exchange during the week 5.2.-9.2.
Dr.Schwarz’ research interests cover linguistic variation & change, history of German & dialectology (esp. from a sociolinguistic view) as well as early history of German (8th–13th centuries), language contact and multilingualism (esp. linguistic minorities, historical multilingualism), word-formation (esp. word-formation change, grammaticalization), phonology (esp. phonological change, dialect-standard dynamics).
