At the annual meeting of the Society for the Study of Finnish (Kotikielen Seura) on February 21, 2025, awards were given to the authors of dissertations completed last year and to articles written by outstanding young researchers. Idastiina Valtasalmi was awarded for her dissertation Teksti- ja käyttäjänäkökulmia selkokielen sanastoon (‘Text and User Perspectives on Easy Finnish Vocabulary’), and Laura Tammilehto for her article Murre ja pohjoisen paikan tuntu Katja Ketun tuotannossa (‘Dialect and the Sense of Northern Place in the Works of Katja Kettu’). The dissertation awards come from the funds of August Ahlqvist, Yrjö Wichmann, Kai Donner, and Artturi Kannisto under the The Finno-Ugrian Society (Suomalais-Ugrilainen Seura), and the article awards from the E.A. Saarimaa fund.

Congratulations to both for the well-deserved awards!
