Finnspired-Sino Talk ‘Can China learn from Finnish Education?’ held successfully Finnspired-Sino Talk之“在芬华人学者说:芬兰教育与中国”圆满成功!

On April 6th 2018, the Finnspired-Sino Talks Tampere event with the theme ‘What China can learn from Finnish education’ was successfully hosted at the premises of Tribe Tampere.

Chinese scholars presented their observations on the Finnish education from various, with also Finnish scholars contributing with their experiences and views of the Chinese education system. They also further discussed how China and Finland can learn from each other’s education system. About 50 participants from different countries and different occupations followed the talk with great passion and enthusiasm.

The event was co-organized by Sino-Finnish Educational Research Center (SFERC), Chinese Students and Scholars Association in Tampere (CSSA Tampere Ry), and Chinese Students and Scholars Association in Jyvaskyla (CSSA Jyväskylä Ry), and supported by Chinese Embassy in Finland, University of Tampere (UTA) and Tribe Tampere ry.

2018年4月6日上午, 由中芬教育研究中心、坦佩雷学联、于韦斯屈莱学联联合主办的Finnspired-Sino Talks说出我的世界之“在芬华人学者说:芬兰教育与中国”在坦佩雷部落活动中心成功举办。活动的组织同时得到了中国驻芬兰大使馆、坦佩雷大学、坦佩雷部落的大力支持。华人学者们从不同的角度解读了他们眼中的芬兰教育,探讨了我们中国改如何学习芬兰教育。约50名来自不同国家和不同专业领域的参与者听的津津有味,反响热烈,不时地为演讲者带来的精彩演讲爆出阵阵鼓掌声。

The event was chaired by Ms. Qin He, Director of Study and Training Sector in CSSA Tampere ry. At the beginning of the event, she invited Mr. Yuhang Gao, Head of education sector from the Chinese Embassy in Finland, Dr. Antti Lönnqvist, Dean of Faculty of Management from UTA and Prof. Baocun Liu, Director of SFERC and Professor in Beijing Normal University, to deliver the opening speeches.

Mr. Yuhang Gao has profound experience of observing and researching on education system in different countries such as Japan and New Zealand. His speech reflected on the heated topics related to Finnish and Chinese education fields in recent years.

活动由坦佩雷学联学习部长贺沁主持。活动开始,中国驻芬兰大使馆教育组高宇航老师和坦佩雷大学管理学院院长Antti Lönnqvist以及北京师范大学教授、中芬教育研究中心主任的刘宝存教授为我们的活动开幕致辞。高老师以其多年在不同国家,不同文化的教育环境中的体验,为我们打开了中芬教育的话题,更提出了许多最近在中国教育圈探讨的和芬兰教育相关的很火的话题以及他的看法,比如芬兰常年在PISA考试中获得优异成绩,也时常进行教育改革,却出人意料的,芬兰从来没有为了考试而做出相应的教学改革。

Dr. Antti Lönnqvist spoke highly of this new form of event, involving students and scholars from different universities together. He also pointed out that the key for China and Finland to learn from each other’s education system is to find an effective way to transfer experiences between the two systems.

坦佩雷大学管理学院院长 Antti Lönnqvist博士祝贺活动的成功开展。他评价Finnspired-Sino Talk的活动形式新颖,如同它的题目一样让人眼前一亮,他同时对学生学者们共同组织活动的力量表示高度赞赏。他表示,中芬教育体系间相互学习关键在于找到一种合适且高效的方式转换两边的成功经验。

Professor Baocun Liu gave his opening speech virtually with a congratulation letter. Dr. Yuzhuo Cai read the letter on Professor Liu’s behalf. In his letter, he expressed his appreciation for Tampere being a pioneer in Sino-Finnish education and research cooperation, and expressed his sincere wishes for the great success of the event.
刘宝存教授未能到现场致辞,但是他通过文字表达了他的祝贺。蔡瑜琢博士为他读出了他的开幕致辞。刘教授称赞坦佩雷一直在中芬教育和科研合作中充当先锋角色,为中芬教育合作事业做出了巨大贡献。他并预祝此次活动的圆满举办!

The keynote speaker, Dr. Yuzhuo Cai, senior lecturer and adjunct professor at UTA, and the Director of Sino-Finnish Education Research Centre, as well as the scholar consultant for CSSA Tampere for years, shared his views on how China should learn from Finnish education. Firstly, the topic of Finnish education is getting increasingly popular in China, but it is misunderstanding in several different ways. For instance, many think that in Finland the study pressure and competition are low, which is not the case. The enrollment rate for Finnish universities is not as high as many would think. Many students must put a great amount of effort to get into their dream university. Secondly, Finnish education should become a mirror for the Chinese education, instead of a tool. We need to study the whole picture of Finnish education, and apply the elements that are suitable for China. Lastly, he summarized some quick-fixes to learn from Finnish education effectively, e.g. learning from teaching techniques, reforms on university entrance exam, regional universities development, developing students’ interest in learning and new ways of learning.
随后,坦佩雷大学副教授、中芬教育研究中心主任、同时也是坦佩雷学联常年专家顾问的蔡瑜琢博士为活动做主旨演讲。作为主旨演讲人,他针对中国如何学习芬兰教育的问题提出了一些独到的见解。首先,对于现在国内被越吵越热的芬兰教育,大家似乎有一些误解,比如认为在芬兰,学习压力更小,难度更低,其实不然,芬兰大学的录取率并不高,学生也是要挤破头了才能进入理想的大学。其次,芬兰教育更应该成为我们中国教育的镜子,而不是工具,要用整体视角来借鉴,从中吸取更适合中国教育的精华。最后蔡老师总结了一些我们可以快速从芬兰教育学习地地方,比如教学技巧、高考改革、地方大学改革、开发学生学习兴趣、学习的新方法等。

The panel discussion that followed was chaired by Ms. Gaoming Zheng, Chairperson of CSSA Tampere and Researcher, doctoral candidate at University of Tampere. Ms Zheng invited the panelist to the stage and gave a short introduction of their views on the Finnish and Chinese educations based on their experiences and visits to Finland or China.
之后,活动进入学者讨论环节,由坦佩雷学联主席、坦佩雷大学博士研究生郑高明主持。首先,郑高明邀请五位访问学者从不同角度,结合自身在芬兰或者在中国访问时的经历,介绍他们眼中的芬兰教育与中国教育。

Visiting Scholar in UTA , Prof. Bing Zuo of Lingnan Normal University said that she was deeply touched by how people trust each other here in Finland. She thinks that this trust relationship between Finnish teachers, parents and students should be our learning model. To achieve this goal, one of the corner stone is to improve the quality of teachers.
坦佩雷大学访问学者、岭南师范学院教授左兵老师在坦佩雷访问期间,深深的被芬兰互相信任的氛围打动。芬兰的老师、家长和学生的三方互相信任模式将会成为我们学习的范本,而中国可以达到互相信任的基石则在于教师的质量标准。

Visiting Scholar at UTA, Associate Professor Lijie Li of Tianjin Normal University stated that teachers are students too. A teacher should know to study. Only by doing he or she can teach others how to study. Her core ideas include how to separate a good evaluation from bad ones and that high equality in school equals with high quality of study.
坦佩雷大学访问学者、天津师范大学副教授李丽洁则提出作为老师,其实也是一名学生。老师首先要会学习,才能教学生如何学习,高平等才能获取高质量。同时,如何判断评测的好坏,也是一门学问。

Visiting Scholar at UTA, Dr. Jiao Cheng from South China Normal University took her own child to a Finnish kindergarten. So she also experienced the Finnish education through her child’s eyes and she felt the true joy in learning. She suggested that discovering children’s or students’ interests and teaching them how to study rather that filling them with knowledge, should be introduced into Chinese education and encourages the vocational education reforms in China. She also compared the Finnish and Chinese vocational education. She believes that Finnish vocational education experiences will bring positive influence for Chinese vocational education’s development.
坦佩雷大学访问学者、华南师范大学讲师程蕉把她的孩子也带到坦佩雷来上幼儿园,真实的体验了一把传说中的芬兰教育。从她孩子的眼里,她能真正的感受到学习的快乐。她认为,芬兰教育中的闪光点如发现兴趣点,学习如何学习,都可以发展到中国的职业教育中,将会给中国职业教育带来改变。

Ms. Tanyu Chen, Customer Relation Manager at Tampere University of Applied Sciences brought us lively talk show. By using her experiences from her stay in Finland, she vividly described how Chinese students were culturally shocked by the Finnish education system, of course in a positive way and how we could use this experience to develop the education system.
坦佩雷应用科技大学客户关系经理陈坦玉女士,给我们带来了震撼人心的脱口秀,以她出国到芬兰留学的体验,形象生动的给我们展示了在中国获取教育学生是如何体验芬兰教育差异的冲击,应该如何转变教育理念的。

The last speaker, Clinical Teacher Mrs. Paula Strengell shared her experiences from her visit at Jinan University in China and showed us how a Finn sees Chinese Education and the cultural differences between the two. She suggested Finns should also start to think what Finland can learn from Chinese system.
