While university admission decisions impact the educational experiences and labor market outcomes for millions of students each year, the best method to determine admissions has been vigorously debated by academics and policymakers across the globe. In this webinar we will take a closer look at the recent reforms of HE admissions in Finland and China, comparing their implications for potential students and HE systems.

University Student Admission Reform and private tutoring markets in Finland

PhD Suvi Jokila is a postdoctoral researcher (Academy of Finland) at the Centre for Research on Lifelong Learning and Education (CELE), University of Turku. Her main research interests include policies on internationalization in HE, international student mobility, commercialization processes in student admission and intranational mobility. She has worked in KONE-funded Privatisation and Access to Higher Education (PAHE) -project. She co-leads International Students in Times of Crisis (EqualISM) -research project and is currently working on her Academy of Finland funded Shadows-project focusing on intranational educational mobility in Finland.

 

The reform of China’s Gaokao: Beyond Educational Matter    ppt slides

Dr. Xiaoguang SHI currently serves as a professor in the Graduate School of Education, and deputy director of Center for International Higher Education at Peking University. He is also VP for China Comparative Education Society. He is mainly engaged in his academic areas in  international and comparative education policy, and authored or edited many publications in the field of his studies, such as Rising China’s Research University so on and so forth.
