The speakers will introduce curremt reforms and development tendencies in Chinese and Finnish education systems. They will also engage in a facilitated dialogue discussing issues, such as:
• How can the tendencies of education reforms in both countries be compared?
• How can China learn from the experience of Finland and vice versa?
• How can the Chinese and Finnish experiences help address global challenges in education?
Prof. Jussi Välimaa – Finnish Institute for Educational Research (FIER), University of Jyväskylä
Dr. Jussi Välimaa is Professor in Educational Studies and Director of the Finnish Institute for Educational Research at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. Being trained as a historian and social scientist professor Välimaa has expertise in social and historical studies on higher education and education. Dr. Välimaa has studied the relationship between higher education and society and the internal dynamics of higher education institutions from cultural, historical and sociological perspectives. Dr. Välimaa’s latest book is ‘A History of Finnish Higher Education from the Middle Ages to the Twenty-first Century’ (Springer, 2019).
Prof. Liu Baocun – Institute of International and Comparative Education, Beijing Normal University.
Prof. Liu is the Director of the National Center for Comparative Educationional at the Beijing Normal University as well as the President of China Comparative Education Society . With his specialization in comparative education, higher education, education policy and management, Prof. Liu has been involved in national and international research and consultancy projects, and published more than 300 journal papers and 20 books. He has received many honours and awards for his research and teaching in the field of education, including the Ministry of Education Distinguished Professor of Changjiang Scholars Program.
