Speakers:

Dr. Shen Wenqin  is Associate Professor of Higher Education at Peking University. He mainly studies the higher education system from the perspectives of intellectual history and Sociology of Science. He authored and co-authored publications focused on transnational history of idea and practice of liberal education (China, UK and US), international academic mobility (especially the mobility of college graduates, doctoral students and postdocs) and doctoral career trajectories. His researches have been published in international journals such as the Higher educationHistory of education quarterlyJournal of SociologyHigher education quarterlyStudies in Higher education, etc.  He is currently serving as a coordinating editor for Higher education.

Professor, Dr. Jussi Kivistö has an experience of teaching and researching higher education administration, management and policy for over 20 years. He holds a position of full professor and as serves as the Unit Head of Administrative Studies Unit, Faculty of Management and Business, Tampere University, Finland. During the past years, Dr. Kivistö has served as a consultant for the World Bank and as Principal Investigator/researcher in several national and international research and development projects, and he has been a frequent keynote speaker or invited expert in events and projects related to Finnish higher education policy. Kivistö has authored over 130 publications, mainly in the field of higher education management and policy.

Dr. Gaoming Zheng is an assistant professor at Institute of Higher Education and the executive  director of the Research Center for China-Europe Higher Education Cooperation (CEHEC), in Tongji University, China. She is also a doctoral graduate and currently affiliated researcher of Higher Education Group (HEG), at Faculty of Management and Business, Tampere University, Finland.  Her research interest covers internationalization of higher education, China-Europe higher education cooperation, academic profession, doctoral education, quality assurance, and institutional logics.

Dr. Anatoly Oleksiyenko is Professor of International Higher Education and Co-Director of the Centre for Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies (CHELPS) at the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK). His research focuses on the challenges of globalisation in higher education and transformations of universities in the 21stcentury. His publications address the dilemmas of agency of internationalization in higher education, complexity of governance, and ethics of leadership in neoliberal universities. He is a leading scholar on the challenges of organizational change in post-soviet higher education. His paper “On the Shoulders of Giants? Global science, resource asymmetries, and repositioning of research universities in China and Russia” (Comparative Education Review) received CIES-HESIG’s Best Article Award in 2016, and his book Global Mobility and Higher Learning (Routledge) won the Best Book Award from CIES’ SIG International Students and Study Abroad in 2019. Professor Oleksiyenko holds a PhD in Higher Education from OISE-University of Toronto.

Malinen

Dr. Olli-Pekka Malinen is a University Lecturer at the University of Helsinki.  For nearly 20 years, he has been involved in research and education cooperation with China in various roles and works currently in the Global Innovation Network for Teaching and Learning (GINTL) Coordination Team with primary focus on China partnerships. He is also serving as the Finnish Chairperson of the Sino-Finnish Joint Learning Innovation Institute (JoLII). During his career, Dr. Malinen has worked as a schoolteacher, researcher, teacher educator, international education expert, and a vice director of a multidisciplinary research institute. His research themes include teacher efficacy, inclusive education, and evidence-based models of teacher professional development.
