National recognition for WHO Collaborating Centre co-directors’ new research funding

The Research Council of Finland and Tampere University have both published news of a major funding success involving the co-directors of our WHO Collaborating Centre.

The six-year research consortium has secured nearly €6 million from the Strategic Research Council’s Public Mental Health programme. Led by our Centre’s Co-director Lauri Kokkinen, with Co-directors Meri Koivusalo and Salla Atkins leading work packages, the consortium will investigate how social mechanisms shape mental health in Finland.

The research will examine a striking paradox: mental health challenges are increasing even though Finland has repeatedly been ranked the world’s happiest country. The project will generate evidence and practical solutions to support public mental health policy.
