The lecture first presents the group of Insurgent Spatial Practices, its action research attitude and relationship to arts-based research methods. Then four to five short films are screened, after which Alatalo will share about the context and making off the films. Both successes and shortcomings are discussed, in relation to techniques, storytelling, visuality and people management. In the films, the researchers have had different roles, from informants to those who are filmed and to making everything themselves, even if not really having the skills to do so, totally outside their comfort zone.
Students participating the seminar will also show the first ideas of their short films to come during the spring, and their ideas will be reflected together.
Lecture is part of Alatalo’s long research visit to École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Paris-la Villette funded by STUE.
