Evening workshop // Pre-party of Urban Studies Conference May 6th

A multidisciplinary artist-researcher group Those Who Become Placed (in Finnish: Paikantujat) shares their developing practice through participatory observation and movement tasks that involve several senses. Through higher sensitivity there emerges new knowledge on how the urban space is, how I am and how others are in the space.

The tasks in the workshop are carried out independently, as well as in pairs and small groups. Tasks do not require any earlier experience in dance and they can be carried out in personal or even minimalistic ways. In the end we leave time for joint discussion over evening snacks.

We will work outside close to Kalevan Halli. Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and shoes. The workshop is aimed at people who are interested in arts-based research methods and urban spaces in transition. There is no registration needed and the workshop is free of charge.

Workshop is organised as part of the pre-party of the Finnish Urban Studies Conference and  in collaboration with ENHANCE research project that explores a variety of methods of citizen participation and co-creation. The pre-party has also plenty of other interesting program, and is open to everyone, welcome to pop-in.

The working group consists of architect-researcher Elina Alatalo, dance artists Hanna Kahrola and Tuuti Touhunen, artistic mentor Jaakko Simola and documenter Mia Tiihonen. The project is funded by Finnish Cultural Foundation, Tampere University, City of Tampere and the European Union, implemented by the Goethe-Institut.

Workshop time:  Wednesday May 6th, 20.30 -22.00

Meeting point:  Kalevan Halli, Sarvijaakonkatu 28, Tampere.
