Public lecture at ELISAVA // Barcelona

Barcelona is well known for it's Superblocks. But what are its Nordic cousins?

Come to hear about more than a seven years journey, where a new urban planning idea emerged from co-design workshops in Finland. Starting from the results of an idea competition in Hiedanranta, a former pulp-mill site with vacant industrial buildings, a manor and some wooden villas by a lake in the city of Tampere, we are now approaching the realization of Nordic Superblocks. In comparison to Barcelona Superblocks, this concept refers mostly to a new scale of collaboration on a block level or between several blocks. This allows e.g. to create better quality and more versatile shared spaces for residents in the buildings, provide tools for lively streetscape and enable energy communities.

This event is for you, if you look for the agency of researchers to orchestrate sustainability transitions, if new concepts of sharing and living interest you or if you want to understand better how to navigate in the messy world of realizing projects.
