Tampere UG screening at Tampere Film Festival

Get to know Tampere's underground scene through the eyes of the people who help create it.

Tampere is growing towards the heights, but there is always something happening underground. From one angle, our city is dynamic and well-organized. And from another angle, it is jagged and bubbling. There have always been shadows and hidden areas here where interesting things happen. This is exactly the side now be brought to light through six short films premiering at the film festival. Some of the material was shot earlier, but each of the films in the screening were completed around the turn of last year.

The content of the screening and the range of methods of implementation are like the field it covers – diverse and surprising. It includes short films, traditional documentation, experimental cinema and post-space age video art. The contents are influenced by music, art, experiences and independent work, oozing joy and dedication to the subject.

Subcultures are doing well and the symbiosis with the built environment and institutions of society is in constant change. Underground work is secretive by nature. It’s like an iceberg, only a small part of it is visible on the surface, if at all.
