The public examination of ORC’s PhD student Joonas Hilska was held on the 3rd of December 2024 where he successfully defended his doctoral thesis titled “Epitaxy of Advanced GaSb-based semiconductor light sources”. The opponent for the defense was Prof. Mark Hopkinson from University of Sheffield and as the custos Prof. Mircea Guina. The thesis delved into the epitaxy of two kinds of GaSb-based light sources, namely laser sources using hard to incorporate bismuth and quantum light sources based on the local droplet etching technique.
