Congratulations to Maximilan Schuchter for defending his doctoral dissertation titled “GaSb-Based Semiconductor Devices for Optically Pumped Lasers : From saturable absorbers to membrane lasers”. The defense, held on 16th of October, started off with a lectio praecursoria on the background of SESAMs, VECSELs and MECSELs. Following that, the honored opponent Dr. Marcel Rattunde from the Fraunhofer Institute of Applied Solid State Physics (IAF) gave a introductory lecture on his background. Prof. Mircea Guina presided over the defense as the custos. The thesis work was done in conjunction with ETH Zurich under the supervision of Prof.em. Ursula Keller.
