First demonstration of quantitative sensing with biopolymer optical fibers

BOF

We report the first demonstration of quantitative sensing using biopolymer optical fibers, establishing their potential as sustainable alternatives to conventional plastic fibers. By engineering the optical and material properties of biodegradable polymers, the study achieves precise and highly sensitive humidity measurements. The fibers exhibit rapid response times and strong signal stability, enabling accurate real-time monitoring. This breakthrough opens new opportunities for environmentally friendly sensing technologies in wearable devices, healthcare, and environmental monitoring.
