Workshop: Rethinking EU-China science and technology cooperation [Tampere, December, 8]

Workshop: Rethinking EU-China science and technology cooperation

Date: 8th December

Location: Tampere, Kalevantie, 4, TAU Main building, Room C201(C9), take the main stairs to the 2nd floor and turn left

Organisers:

  • Sino-Finnish Education Research Centre, JoLii
  • Chinese Association of Science of Science and Science and Technology Policy

Background and objective:

Global geopolitical tensions have significantly influenced EU-China cooperation in the realm of science and technology. As such, both the EU and China are steadfast in their commitment to mitigating these issues and forging strategies for effective collaboration. However, the development of these strategies predominantly occurs through internal discussions within Europe and China respectively. This approach may engender misunderstandings and mutual misperceptions between the two, potentially undermining the future prospects of EU-China science and technology cooperation.

In response to this, the workshop is organized to tackle these challenges. It aims to facilitate open dialogues between stakeholders engaged in EU-China science and technology collaborations across both research and practice sectors. The workshop possesses a dual focus: firstly, to elucidate any existing misperceptions held by both parties, and secondly, to explore new avenues for strengthening and maintaining cooperative ties. Through these focused discussions, the workshop endeavors to clear misunderstandings and carve pathways for robust and enduring collaboration between the EU and China in science and technology.
