New paper published: "Traffic Load Model Calibration and Comparison to Evolving Traffic Loads In 2014–2018"

New paper Traffic Load Model Calibration and Comparison to Evolving Traffic Loads In 2014–2018 by Olli Asp and Anssi Laaksonen is published in issue 3/2023, in the Baltic Journal of Road and Bridge Engineering.

Considerable growth in industrial activities and the volume of road transportation of goods have caused a need for allowance of heavier lorries on the road network to make the road transport more economical. In this study the increased effects of traffic load on infrastructure is assessed with monitoring and simulation model.

The characteristics of traffic load are important to know in design of safe and sustainable structures. The increase in allowed gross vehicle weights in legislation have certain increasing effect on live loads for example on bridges.  Therefore the design loads need to be recalibrated according to present legislation.
