Call for seed funding now open!

Sustainable Welfare Systems research program has opened a call for seed funding to support and develop multi- and interdisciplinary research on welfare systems at Tampere University.

Details for the funding call are as follows:

CALL FOR SEED FUNDING

We are looking for new ideas to build up an interdisciplinary and phenomena-oriented research initiative on welfare systems!

In the contemporary welfare systems, there is a growing demand for multidisciplinary and phenomenon-based collaboration between different scientific fields.

Sustainable Welfare Systems (SWS) research program has been established to support the implementation of Tampere University’s emerging research field “Future of well-being”. SWS is funded by the Academy of Finland (Profi5). In the program welfare systems are defined broadly including health care and social services, social security as well as policies, politics, reforms, economy, organizations, technologies, and governance related to these systems. Special attention is given to the question of how knowledge and information can be used to support and improve the governance of welfare systems, implementation of welfare policies and the agency of patients, customers, citizens, professionals and decision-makers.

To support and develop multi- and interdisciplinary research on welfare systems at Tampere university we open a call for seed funding

We grant seed funding to ideas which (1) bring together researchers from more than one discipline and research group (2) connect researcher and/or other stakeholders around a phenomenon which is relevant for the scope of the program (3) produce concrete outputs that will advance and strengthen the overall goals of the research program and the emerging field of “Future of Well-being”.

As an example, funding can be granted to initiatives that

  • introduce new inter- or multidisciplinary research initiatives that organise around phenomena that is relevant for the scope of the program (e.g. research pilot, book project, joint article, special issue etc.)
  • introduce new events or series of events which bring together researchers from different disciplines and/or actors outside the academia
  • generate external funding (e.g. project proposal preparation)
  • establish new connections with international research partners

Funded projects will form an important part of the research program

  • The funded initiatives that have successfully met the goals for seed-funding are eligible to apply for follow-up funding in 2022.
  • The applied sums can be up to 20 000 euro depending on the scale and the scope of the initiative. The funding has to be spent by 31.12.2021.
  • Seed funding cannot be used for wages of the permanent staff of the university.
  • The proposal format is not specified but should not exceed 2 pages.
  • The proposal should be sent to Research coordinator Matias Heikkilä (matias.heikkila@tuni.fi) no later than 8th of February 2021.
  • Matias will also take any enquiries concerning the seed funding call.
